LU Leipzig Award

At Lancaster University Leipzig, we highly value not only the academic achievements of our students but also the activities you pursue outside your programme of study.

Your student experience is enriched through extra-curricular involvement, and with more graduates entering the job market each year, such experiences are key to your future career prospects.

The Lancaster University Leipzig Award has been designed to encourage you to take part in these activities, bring them together in one place, and gain recognition for your accomplishments. We want you to stand out from the crowd – and the LU Leipzig Award will help you do just that.

Successful participants will receive an official certificate from Lancaster University Leipzig.

Completion Requirements

The Award has been designed to be as flexible as possible, allowing you to shape it around your interests during the three years of your Bachelor’s degree.

You will need to complete activities across all four areas of the Award. Each activity is worth a set number of points, and you must collect at least the minimum required in each area. To achieve the Lancaster University Leipzig Award, you must complete activities worth at least 85 points in total.

For more details about the Award, please visit the Moodle InfoHub.

Remember to keep a detailed record of the hours and workshops you complete in each area. We strongly encourage you to begin collecting points early rather than waiting until your final year.

Take a look at the example activities below to see what you can choose from:

Careers Workshops

Minimum 5 Workshops (1 Workshop = 1 Point)

There are many career development opportunities whilst you are at university. Careers run a wide range of workshops and employer presentations to help you understand key skills that employers look for in candidates. We run workshops on CVs/Cover Letters, application forms, interviews and assessment centres, job search and IT skills. LinkedIN courses that provide certificates also count as workshops. We also host SAP-workshops. One SAP workshop counts as 3 workshops.

The dates and details of all workshops are regularly communicated to all students.

Campus Activity

Minimum 20 hours (1h = 1 Point)

The wider your range of experiences and skills the more attractive you will be to potential employers.

There are fantastic opportunities on campus and in Leipzig: Being an active member of a society or sports clubs will not only expand your friendship networks, and help you grow in confidence, but will also give you the opportunity to develop your transferable skills.

Aside from clubs and societies there are many other ways in which to become involved with campus life. You can become a tour guide in welcome week, a mentor or a student representative.

FAQ

Can I refer to activities from before I began University?

No – the Lancaster University Leipzig Award focuses only on activities you have been involved in since starting your degree. However, if you had a part-time job or were engaged in volunteering before university and you continue with this during university breaks, those activities can be counted towards the Award.

Is unpaid experience automatically volunteering?

In our view, unpaid activities carried out to support others – for example, fundraising for a charity or helping at city events – count as volunteering.

By contrast, if you undertake unpaid activities primarily to gain insight into a sector and develop your own skills, this would be considered work experience – and it can still count towards your Award points!

Can I get points from project as part of my degree programme?

We are aware that some degree programmes offer the opportunity to work on industry projects with external companies. These can be counted as work experience.

Do I get points for Study Abroad year?

You do not earn points for the study abroad programme. However, you can earn points for participating in global summer schools and for any extra activities you undertake while abroad. This includes taking part in campus events or ambassador-like activities. Anything that contributes to the student experience counts as campus activity.

Can I use points for other areas?

You cannot use points earned in one of the four areas to make up for a shortfall in another area.

What if I change my mind and want to leave the Award?

If you no longer wish to complete the Lancaster University Leipzig Award, then you can simply choose to not submit any work. You will not get an Award certificate.
