It’s summer break and some of our students and staff members enjoy the summer weather in Leipzig. These are their favorite spots:
My favorite place in Leipzig is the Elster river, that has lots of green spaces around. I usually come on weekends with my friends for nice walks. It is actually next to the Red Bull Leipzig soccer stadium, where I usually go and watch Bundesliga games on the weekend when they play soccer.
My favorite place is the wild park. This entire area is filled with greenery and is a wonderful place to cycle or to jog. However, it is also a wildlife preserve filled with wonderful animals such as bison, moose, deer, lynx. They are just so relaxing to observe and pet and feed sometimes.
If you are coming to Leipzig from another country, you might wonder what to expect from a German summer. Generally, June to August are the warmest months of the year, with temperatures in Leipzig typically reaching around 22–25°C during the day. July and August are usually the warmest months, although temperatures can vary considerably from one week to the next.
German summers can be pleasantly warm and sunny, but they are not always consistently hot. You can experience several days of sunshine followed by cooler weather, rain showers or even thunderstorms. July is also typically one of Leipzig’s wetter months, so it is always worth keeping a light jacket or umbrella nearby.
When temperatures do climb above 30°C, however, Leipzig offers plenty of opportunities to cool down – from swimming in one of the many lakes surrounding the city to relaxing in the shade of one of its parks.
Clara Zetkin Park is one of my favorite places in Leipzig. It helps me take a break from everyday stress and just enjoy nature. You can walk, relax, take photos or just spend time with friends. It’s calm, green and always makes me feel better.
My favorite location in the summer is not only this lake, but all the lakes around Leipzig. We have many and I just like to go with the paddle board, go into the water, chill out a bit and enjoy the nice German summer.
With so many lakes, parks and outdoor spaces to choose from, summer is a great time to explore Leipzig beyond the city centre. Whether you want to spend a day at the beach, have a picnic in the park, cycle along the canals or simply sit outside with friends, there is always somewhere to enjoy the warmer months in Leipzig as a student.
