Wissenschaftskino Leipzig is a joint event series organised by Leipzig’s scientific institutions, the Zeitgeschichtliches Forum and the Knowledge Policy Unit for the City of Leipzig. In cooperation with Lancaster University Leipzig, this edition featured a screening of The Big Short, which examines the 2008 financial crisis and the collapse of the US housing market.
Following the screening, Dr Vidhya Unnikrishnan and Dr Stefan Kupfer joined a discussion titled “Boom and Bust – are financial crises part of the system?”, exploring the mechanisms behind financial bubbles and market crashes and offering insights into the functioning of modern financial systems. The event brought together a wide audience, placing academic research in dialogue with the public.
