Want to find out everything you need to know about the Master’s degree in Data Science at Lancaster University Leipzig?
Join this taster session with two of our Assistant Professors, Dr Christoph Jansen (Data Science) and Dr John Alasdair Warwicker (Computer Science).
After a brief introduction to Lancaster University Leipzig, we will explore the structure of our MSc Data Science, including the modules and degree requirements. You will then experience two short taster sessions delivered by our lecturers, giving you a first insight into what it is like to study for an MSc in Data Science.
About Dr Jansen:
Christoph Jansen has been an Assistant Professor of Data Science at Lancaster University Leipzig since June 2024. Previously, he was a postdoctoral researcher and habilitation candidate at the Department of Statistics at LMU Munich.
In his research, he uses methods from decision and game theory as well as the theory of imprecise probabilities to make machine learning methods more reliable and robust to their implicit assumptions.
About Dr Warwicker:
John Warwicker is an Assistant Professor in Computer Science at Lancaster University Leipzig. Previously, he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Institute of Operations Research at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, after obtaining his PhD in Theoretical Computer Science at the University of Sheffield, UK.
His research lies on the intersection of optimisation and machine learning; specifically, seeking advancements in efficiency, reliability and transparency for prediction and classification approaches, including neural networks. He is interested in understanding how and why these approaches work and using this information to enhance their performance. He has further interests in the theoretical analyses of evolutionary and heuristic algorithms.
