Assistant Professor in Computer Science
Arash Akbarinia is an Assistant Professor in Computer Science. He received his PhD in Informatics from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. He has been a Research Scientist at Justus Liebig University Giessen for several years and joined Lancaster University Leipzig in January 2026. His research is interdisciplinary, focusing on visual understanding in both biological and artificial systems. He uses artificial neural networks to study human visual processing by comparing representations in biological and artificial systems, and by decoding information from brain signals using computational models. His work has been published in leading journals, including Nature Human Behaviour and IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence.
