Or students joined this year’s HackaTUM hackathon. The event featured six challenge tracks proposed by leading TUM partners, and our students chose to compete in the track hosted by SAP, Germany’s largest software company.
The challenge focused on SAP Build, SAP’s latest no-code/low-code solution designed to help non-technical users create automated workflows with ease. Our students set out to develop an accessibility-focused extension that would allow users with disabilities to interact with SAP Build entirely through voice commands.
Their solution aimed to enable users to build complete workflows through spoken instructions and provide verbal insights into existing workflows and related statistics.
The team successfully developed a JavaScript-based interface that converts voice commands into text by integrating with Google’s Gemini. They also explored and manipulated exported MDIR files to generate new workflow elements – an important aspect of SAP’s multitargeted file structure. While not every feature could be completed within the time frame, the students gained valuable experience in AI integration, workflow automation, and SAP’s development ecosystem.
HackaTUM offered an excellent environment for learning, collaboration, and networking with major tech companies. Lancaster University Leipzig congratulates the students for their hard work and innovation and extends appreciation to HackaTUM for an outstanding event.
