This week, Lancaster University Leipzig brought students and lecturers together to celebrate Lunar New Year in a lively and culturally rich event held on the first floor of the campus. From 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, the University community gathered to explore Asian traditions, share customs, and mark the beginning of the new lunar year in a welcoming and interactive atmosphere.
The celebration featured a diverse programme of activities designed to introduce participants to Chinese language and culture. Guests enjoyed videos highlighting Asian traditions, took part in a quiz competition with a winning prize, and engaged in hands-on workshops including Chinese calligraphy and paper art. A Chinese language session offered further insight into linguistic and cultural nuances, while informal exchange spaces encouraged conversations among students and staff.
The event attracted strong participation from across the campus community. Not only students from Asian countries joined the celebration, but also many students of other nationalities who were eager to learn about new traditions and share their own cultural perspectives. The afternoon became a vibrant space of mutual exchange, where stories, customs, and experiences were shared across cultures.
Lancaster University Leipzig is proud to host students from more than 80 nationalities, and events such as the Lunar New Year celebration highlight the strength of this diverse community. The University is delighted to see students and lecturers engaging with one another, exchanging traditions, and building meaningful connections that enrich campus life and foster intercultural understanding.
