Fees and Scholarships

Annual Tuition Fees

For undergraduate students Lancaster University Leipzig has two different types of tuition: EU students pay €9,000 and non-EU students €15,000 per year. Please note: We offer student finance for applicants from the EU / EEA area through our partner CHANCEN eG.

Additional fees:

Upon arrival to Germany, all students are required to:

  • pay for their course materials
  • purchase the local transportation ticket (MDV):

               Annual ticket costs:

               For students studying: January-September: €322,50

               For students studying: October-September: €430

During orientation week you will receive a student pass which will also be your travel pass. The compulsory amount of €322,50 or €430 will be invoiced by LU Leipzig. It is mandatory to have a local transportation ticket and it is not possible to opt out.

  • be covered by either public or private health insurance. The cost per month is up to 105 Euro (depending on the insurance provider)

Lancaster University Leipzig Scholarships

Lancaster University offers the following scholarships for prospective students. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding your availability.

Undergraduate level

Merit Scholarships

Applicants for direct entry (First Year) with the following academic performance in their final high school degree (A-Level, IB, GSCE or equivalent) are eligible for the following scholarships:

Your application will automatically be considered for a scholarship as soon as you submit your online application form with all required documents.

Campus Director's Scholarship

Applicants for the International Foundation Year may apply for a €1,000 one time fee reduction.
How to apply? After having received an offer letter from Lancaster University Leipzig, please submit a 1-page essay “What surprises you about the city of Leipzig? Please describe”. The decisions will be made case-by-case.

Country Specific Benefits

Lancaster University Leipzig offers the following tuition fee reduction (€1,000 for each year of subsequent study) for both Foundation Year as well as direct entry for applicants from the following countries for January or September 2021:

  • India
  • South Korea
  • Brazil

Postgraduate level

Pre-Masters Tuition Fee Reduction

All Pre-Maters applicants for February 2022 intake will be automatically eligible for a one-time fee reduction of €1,000 towards their programme. 

Merit Scholarships

Merit scholarships for Masters students will be announced soon.

Benefits for First-degree Relatives

Lancaster University Leipzig offers “Family Scholarships” for siblings, spouses or children/parents studying concurrently at Lancaster University Leipzig. This is an automatic €1,000 reduction of the yearly tuition for each first-degree family member.

It is not possible to combine multiple scholarships. The scholarships scheme are subject to change by the university at any time.
